Hawkeye Sr.

Hawkeye was a retired, partially blind, drug-sniffing dog whose owner/handler experienced some severe medical difficulties that resulted in extended hospitalization and made it impossible for him to take care of Hawkeye.  During his working days, Hawkeye won statewide awards for his spectacular talents.  But the house where Hawkeye and his handler lived was sold and Hawkeye was in desperate straits.  He was 13 years old, no longer able to work, and his human protectors were no longer able to protect him.  So the Thulani Program was contacted to see if GSRNC could help.  There was no way that we would not step in to help Hawkeye, and we were able to find the ideal home for him in which he could live out his days.  Hawkeye enriched the lives of his foster family for six wonderful months.

Hawkeye passed away on 3/25/2011, and he did it on his own terms, as he had done all his life.   See the German Shepherd Dog Review article at In the News for more about Hawkeye’s story.
